Does your child’s Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan reflect the support they need in everyday life? Does it recognise their goals and what will help them grow and develop? Does it look ahead to the support they may need for their wellbeing and independence in adulthood?
At Imara Social Work Ltd, we specialise in assessing people with disabilities and complex needs, providing clear recommendations about the care and support they require.
We take time to understand each person’s daily life, views, wishes and feelings (including what they communicate through their behaviour) and recognise the valuable knowledge of family members and others who support them.
We take a whole family approach, considering how caring responsibilities affect parents, carers and siblings, alongside the child’s individual needs. This helps us understand how support can promote the child’s welfare while sustaining family life.
Our assessments therefore tell a story of a persons life - their strengths, aspirations, difficulties and circumstances. This context can be overlooked, yet it is often essential to understanding what assistance is needed and why. We draw on this understanding, alongside knowledge of the relevant legal frameworks and policies, to produce clear, evidence based recommendations. Where required, we present our findings in an expert witness report to inform SEND Tribunal appeals, and hold the specific expertise and certification to do this well.
If you believe there are gaps in your child’s EHC plan, or there is disagreement about the support required, contact us for a free 15-minute consultation to discuss how an independent social care assessment could help.
