Imara Social Work Ltd is directed by Maria Hargreaves, a qualified social worker since 2008, registered with both Social Work England and Social Care Wales. Maria personally undertakes all the commissioned work and brings extensive practice experience, specialising in complex physical and learning disabilities, autism and neurodivergence across the lifespan. Maria's practice includes providing independent advice, comprehensive needs assessment, case management, and expert witness reports for cases involving Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Tribunals, the Court of Protection and Judicial Reviews.

Maria’s post-qualifying credentials include qualification as a Best Interest Assessor, and post-graduate awards in Adults at Risk, Consolidating Social Work Practice and Purchasing and Commissioning in Social Care. Maria is also a registered Case Manager with CMSUK, is certified in 'ParentAssess' and has completed specialised courtroom skills, expert report writing and cross-examination training. In addition, Maria's expertise is strengthened by advanced training in autism, the Mental Capacity Act, and Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Maria's career has encompassed roles across Children’s Disability Teams, Adult Learning Disability Services, an Autism Specific Service and Generic Adult Care. Beyond frontline statutory work, Maria has also operated at a strategic level as a commissioner, leading key initiatives including a county-wide autism strategy. 

Maria approaches every instruction with ethical integrity, carefully reviewing each matter to ensure she is the right practitioner to assist. If she cannot respond in good time, or feels another specialist would be better placed, she will provide clear reasoning and signpost to alternative resources or trusted independent social work colleagues. Maria’s ultimate commitment is to ensure each individual receives the most appropriate, high quality support to meet their specific needs.
